Battle of the Somme - Memorial Peal at Gosberton

A peal was rung at Gosberton on July 1st in memory of those who died during the 1st day of the Battle of the Somme July 1st 1916 and especially two local ringers. The details are below.

Rung in memory of all those who died during the first day of the Battle of the Somme, July 1st, 1916. In particular two Lincolnshire ringers who fell that day, Private George Marshall, aged 30, of Gosberton, and Serjeant Joe Yorke Bishop, aged 29, of Kirton in Holland. Both men are commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
