Rung to the day to mark the 250th anniversary of the first
peal to be rung on the bells, the first peal to be rung in
the City of Lincoln and the second peal to be rung in the County.
The original peal which is commemorated on an ancient faded peal
board in the ringing chamber of St Giles was rung on 20th June 1756
at St Peter at Arches Church, Lincoln which was the Corporation
Church. During the 1920s St Peter at Arches Church was demolished
and most of the materials and fittings from the church were
transferred/incorporated in to the new church of St Giles, Lincoln
including the fine peal of 8 bells cast in 1728 by Abraham Rudhall
of Gloucester.
The composition used is thought to be the same compositions used
in the original 1756 peal to the best of our knowledge.
First peal of Grandsire Triples for 6.
