Refreshments - Bring your own!

Please join us for a couple of hours of chat, cathcup, virtual ringing and fun!

As our return to "normal" ringing may still be some way off, the Central Branch committee thought it would be good to trial using Ringing Room and Zoom so we can all meet up for a bit of a social and also to practice our method ringing. Now, some of your may be scared stiff at the thought of the technology, but a few towers in the branch have already been using this to meet up regularly and it's really not that difficult to get the hang of.

To kick this off, we thought we could meet up for our half yearly meeting which was supposed to be at Welbourn on Saturday 11 July. The meeting was scheduled from 3.00pm until 8.00pm, but I'm sure you won't want to sit at your computers for 5 hours, so instead we've scheduled this for 2 hours from 3.00-5.00pm.

So why not give it a go? If nothing else it will be lovely to see everyone and have a bit of a catch-up.

Here are some step by step instructions on how to register and join Ringing Room and open the Zoom meeting on your computer:

If you're new to Ringing Room please follow the below steps, but if you already have a Ringing Room login please skip to Step 3:

Step 1: Well before the meeting, open Chrome (or your favourite web browser) and go to

Step 2: Register with and log into Ringing Room.

On the Day of the Meeting

Step 3: Enter the "virtual" Welbourn tower by clicking on this link:

We have found that Ringing Room doesn't always work well on tablets so you're best using a PC or laptop instead. That said, one member did get it working on her mobile the other evening - it was just a lack of phone signal that caused an issue.

Step 4: Start the Zoom meeting by clicking on this link:

If you already have the Zoom app on your PC, click on Launch Zoom Meeting

If you don't have the Zoom app, click "Download and run Zoom". An executable file will download which you need to run. In Chrome this appears bottom left of your screen, and if using Edge, you will see a box appear at the bottom of your screen - just click on Run

Zoom will then install and you will be joined to the meeting.

If prompted, click "enable internet audio", and make sure your webcam is enabled so we can see you.

What is Ringing Room? It's a website which enables you to grab hold of a virtual rope and ring your bell with other ringers across the Branch/Guild/World!

And why do I need Zoom? Zoom is so we can all see/chat (and laugh) with each other, decide what we are going to ring, and solve any teething problems, etc.

What else do I need to know? Frequently Asked Questions about Ringing Room can be found here, but don't worry, all you need to know will be explained on the day.

If you need help with any of the above, please call Sandra Underwood on 07710 772458 who will be pleased to help.

We look forward to seeing you next Saturday.

Best wishes.
