Sadly we have been informed of the death of Peter Godfrey. The news comes from Crowland Tower captain Roy Snow. Roy said:
"Peter Godfrey, stalwart of ringing at Crowland, died this morning (Friday 26th June) in the Broadleigh Care Home in Peterborough. He had a fall at home in late March and was taken to Peterborough Hospital, later being transferred to Stamford Hospital and then on to the Care Home in Peterborough.
Peter was solely responsible for talking both Jo and me into taking up ringing in 1999, in order to be ready for the millennium, and supported us ever since.
He was still having a ring, invariably on his favourite trusty number 5 bell, right up until his fall, despite being 96 years old by then! He was an ever-present at Practice Nights even when he was “a bit out of puff”, and just sat and watched and chatted.
I will miss his good counsel and constant positivity for many years to come."
