This story commences at Gedney on sunday morning, July 8th, when we were arranging the next Gedney practice. Anthony suggested Sempringham, an excellent idea for a summer evening, and consulting my diary I noted our previous visit to this tower had been on July 11, 2017, just over a year ago. We had all enjoyed this, the history of the Priory, the beauty of the site, the sad tale of Gwenllian, the last Welsh Princess, and the delightful six bells in St Andrews tower accessed via those awkward spiral stairs.
This venue proved most popular, as on tuesday, July 17th, we hosted what amounted to a mini Eastern/Elloe meeting with 16 ringers from 10 towers , Butterwick, Fishtoft, Boston, Freiston, Frampton, Kirton, Quadring, Whaplode, Gedney and Sutton St James. Methods rang ranged from rounds through to Bob Doubles and Minor, Single Court Minor, a well struck course of Kent and finally a course of Oxford Treble Bob. The evening concluded with a convivial "get together"at the Ship Inn in nearby Pointon. Thanks to all who came and contributed to this enjoyable occasion and to Anthony who organised keys to the tower and to the beautiful interior of the church.
