Guild 6-bell Striking Competitions
The final of this year's Guild Striking Contest was held in the Central
Branch on Saturday 13 September 2008, with seven teams competing at Welton for
the John Freeman Cup, and seven at Dunholme for the Edward Colley Plate. The
first two teams from the Branch Striking Competitions compete for the Cup and
the third and fourth teams compete for the Plate.
The results of the competitions were as follows:-
Edward Colley Plate - Judge: Michael Belcher
Place Team Comments Mark (positive rows) 1st Swinderby/Eagle Very good, very good leads and consistent throughout, but the x factor only appeared near the end 228 2nd Alford Hilarious! Terrible practice piece, then a belting, smashing piece of ringing during the test producing some fantastic ringing 227 3rd Rippingale Best start of the day, and marred by the method mistake, which was quickly corrected 226 4th Barton on humber (B) Very, very good piece of ringing - consistent throughout but who wasn't ready when someone said "go"? 223 5th Scotter Very, very nice piece of ringing, but with fractionally slow tenor at hand, with excellent ringing throughout 221 6th Markett Deeping (B) Very well done, just more attention by little bells over big bells - first 32 changes were perfect 217 7th Willingham A very good finish! Very few leading mistakes; very good second half after a nervy end to the first half, generally very good 210

Place Team Comments Faults 1st Messingham Plain bob doubles - Absolutely super - the leading was absolutely spot on! Very, very good throughout 13 2nd Bourne Six spliced surprise minor - Measured good ringing throughout, in more than one method No whole faults, speeded up slightly towards the end 15 3rd Gainsborough Grandsire doubles - A lovely piece of ringing after a terrible practice! Seemed the right kind of speed and had an excellent rhythm 17 4th Lincoln Cathedral Rang Cambridge Minor, good throughout, ringing improved around the bobs and the ringing got better - an interesting observation! Generally excellent ringing 31 5th Market Deeping Plain Bob Minor - A nice piece of ringing, bobs caused a bit of a problem, but without those mistakes would have been better and a nice rhythm established and maintained 33.5 6th Swineshead Plain bob minor - Bit of trouble with the leading in the early part of the piece, but very much improved as it went through. 34.5 7th Welton Plain bob doubles Nervy start, but got used to the bells and particularly improved 40.5Congratulations to the winning bands!
